Days one to four: Dali
Arrive with a light first evening, then divide your time between the old town, the Erhai area and a village visit. Choose one stretch of lake shore rather than attempting to circle the entire lake in a day. A separate morning in Xizhou leaves room to notice courtyards, market activity and local food. Keep a weather-dependent mountain outing optional.
Days five to seven: Lijiang
Move to Lijiang and allow an afternoon simply to learn the lanes around your accommodation. Use the following day for the old town and a guided conversation about Naxi history. Baisha can make a quieter half-day contrast. Avoid combining several distant attractions with a performance on the same evening; the unhurried hours are part of the appeal.
Days eight to ten: Shangri-La
Continue only if the group’s health and comfort suit a higher-elevation stay. Make arrival gentle and leave demanding walks out of the initial schedule. Discuss altitude with a clinician before travel if relevant. Reserve the final day for departure rather than another distant excursion. A private itinerary is most successful when it can remove an activity without making the whole trip feel incomplete.
