Set up Alipay before departure while you have dependable internet access and can reach your card issuer. Treat registration, identity checks and linking a payment method as separate tasks. Completing one screen does not establish that every transaction you might need will work during the trip.
Follow the current app prompts
Use the official app distribution channel and enter your own details accurately. Review the supported card information and any verification requests within the app. The interface and requirements can change, so an old screenshot tutorial should not override the current instructions. Never give a guide or an unfamiliar helper your password or verification code.
Understand the intended use
Ask whether the function you need is a merchant payment rather than a transfer to another person. Different functions can have different eligibility and limits. Read any transaction fee or exchange information displayed before confirming. If a card is declined, check with the issuer through its established support channel instead of repeatedly trying new amounts.
Prepare recovery and alternatives
Keep access to the telephone number or email used for account recovery, and know what happens if the phone is replaced. Carry a physical card and a modest cash reserve separately. Where practical, have another adult prepare an independent payment method. The government visitor guide identifies several payment options; use that flexibility rather than making one app your only way to buy meals or transport. Test an ordinary purchase early and address any problem while the day’s schedule remains light.
