The first day becomes easier when essential tasks happen in a deliberate order. After arrival, focus on reaching your accommodation, establishing contact and resting. There is little advantage in testing every travel app or visiting a major attraction while tired and carrying luggage.
Before leaving the airport
Confirm that you have your passport, all bags and the address of your hotel. If someone is meeting you, use the agreed contact and location. Resolve a missing-baggage report before leaving the relevant service area. Check that you can send a message or understand the backup plan if mobile data is unavailable.
At the hotel
Save the hotel’s Chinese name, address and telephone number in an easily accessible place. Ask about breakfast and your next day’s pickup rather than leaving those details until morning. Charge devices and place essential documents somewhere consistent. Test your chosen payment method with an ordinary purchase when convenient, keeping a second method available.
Keep the evening close
Choose a simple meal near the hotel and a short walk only if you feel ready. Review the next day’s reservation, meeting time and clothing needs. Avoid adding a distant dinner or timed show merely because the calendar labels the day as free. If traveling with others, agree how to reconnect if separated. The first day’s job is to make the second day easy; a calm start often contributes more to the trip than one extra attraction visited in a haze of fatigue.
